Overview

Vung Tau Street Food brings a slice of coastal Vietnamese flavor to Cabramatta, NSW, nestled conveniently on Hume Highway. This vibrant eatery specializes in authentic dishes inspired by the coastal city of Vung Tau, known for its unique takes on traditional Vietnamese street food. The focus here is on delivering genuine taste experiences rooted in regional culinary traditions, crafted with care by a friendly, family-run team.

The star attraction is undoubtedly their Banh Khot, a crispy, rice-based pancake made with coconut milk and dusted with shrimp powder. Unlike the softer, cupped versions found elsewhere, Vung Tau’s rendition is delightfully flat and pale, offering a textural crispness that contrasts beautifully when wrapped in fresh lettuce and herbs before being dipped in their perfectly balanced nuoc mam sauce. This dish stands out for its grasp of traditional flavors with an elevated twist that feels both comforting and invigorating.

Complementing the pancakes are their lemongrass pork skewers, wafer-thin slices grilled to smoky perfection with a tender, jerky-like texture. These skewers pair exceptionally well with the house sambal oelek chili sauce, which balances fruity heat with a hint of sweetness. The unwinding audio of a family-style food truck and rustic wooden bench seating invite a relaxed, communal dining atmosphere that enhances the authenticity of the experience.

For those with a sweet tooth, the dessert offerings are just as thoughtful. The sticky rice banana wrapped in green sticky rice, grilled and served with a luscious coconut cream and palm sugar sauce, exemplifies traditional Vietnamese sweets made with a subtle touch. It’s both satisfying and light, perfect for ending the meal on a genuine note.

Vung Tau Street Food caters to lovers of Vietnamese cuisine seeking an authentic journey through coastal flavors in an unpretentious setting. The approachable space, combined with attentive and welcoming service, makes it ideal for casual lunch breaks, laid-back dinners, or takeaway for those craving a quick yet memorable bite. This is a spot best experienced with an open palate and a readiness to appreciate the nuances of Vietnamese street fare beyond the usual.

In essence, Vung Tau Street Food delivers quality and authenticity with every dish, making it a standout destination in Cabramatta for those eager to explore genuine Vietnamese coastal street food. The consistency in flavor, attention to regional detail, and warm hospitality all add up to a dining experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Food was delicious and service was friendly. Highly recommend the banh khot dac biet which was delectably crispy and paired so well with the nuoc mam sauce. Definitely will get cravings for this. The grilled pork was so flavoursome and had a wonderful chargrilled aroma to it. Pandan jelly drink was nice and not too sweet and the fried ice cream with caramel sauce was the perfect way to end the meal.

Hearing Sydney had a spot offering a regional type of bánh khọt had me hightailing it to Vung Tau Street Food in Lansvale. Unlike the cupped soft yellow savoury mini pancakes common in the Mekong Delta, the coastal city of Vung Tau does a version that are flat, pale and crisp. The pancake batter is made of rice powder and coconut milk, and they’re dusted with shrimp powder, which makes them very effective prawn delivery systems. We took ours as the dac biet (special) bánh khọt ($15/8 pieces) with prawn and squid sprinkled with herbs. They eat best wrapped in lettuce with fresh herbs ($3) and dunked into the accompanying lightly spicy Vietnamese dipping sauce (nuoc mam). This food truck’s lemongrass pork skewers ($10/3) were another revelation: wafer thin they ate more like soft jerky than juicy meat. We dipped ours into a little pot of sambal oelek, which was fruity and super tasty. The friendly, family-run food truck team brought us out the jar so we could photograph it to buy some for home use, and gave us a little pot takeaway. Enjoying their camp-style set-up (though from a wooden bench rather than the precariously tiny plastic stools) we finished on sticky rice banana in coconut cream ($6). Tasty and not over-sweet, this Vietnamese dessert sees green sticky rice wrapped around a sugar banana. The parcels are grilled, unwrapped and assembled with a sauce of tapioca, coconut cream and palm sugar under a dusting of crushed roasted peanuts for extra deliciousness! Can’t wait to return and try the rest of their (not-inconsiderable) menu.

We ordered banh khot, BBQ combo and banh lot drink. The banh khot was so delicious, the texture was crispy and the flavours were excellent. The bbq combo was also very tasty, the cut of pork was nice and it was grilled well. Their nuoc mam was also very good and well balanced. Overall, the food here was delicious, cozy seating available and staff are very friendly.

I recently tried the Banh Khot Special (Prawn and Squid) and Charcoal BBQ combo, and it was a great food experience. The Banh Khot was crispy and full of flavour, complemented by a fish dipping sauce. The Charcoal BBQ combo featured perfectly grilled meats with a smoky aroma and tender juiciness. Overall, a highly recommended dining choice for authentic Vietnamese feed

A Vietnamese food truck located on Hume Highway within the Service/Petrol Station, Vung Tau Street Food reminds me of my trip to Vietnam, eating by the streets, sitting in low chairs and enjoying some simple and tasty food. The Banh Knot (mini pancakes) were very cute and nice. The staff were nice and also advised the best way to eat the dishes. I recommend you to give it a try
